Parent/Youth Retreat on March 13 – I am writing to invite you to the Peakland Baptist Church parent/youth retreat on March 13, 2010. Several weeks ago the youth participated in a values identification exercise. Family was identified as a significant value for the youth. This retreat will support the youth’s value of family.
The intent of the retreat is to inform and educate parents and youth about the social issues our youth face today. Our youth face a much different and dangerous world than their parents did as teens. The retreat is also an opportunity for parents to get to know each other so we can better support our youth. There will be team building activities for the youth, parents and both groups combined. This is a very unique opportunity for parents to strengthen their relationship with their children while learning more about the world they live in.
Please join us for a time of laughter and learning in support of our children. We will meet at Camp Kum Ba Yah on March 13th at 9 am. Breakfast and lunch will be provided and the cost for this event will be $35.00 per person. Please contact Tracy Ryder at taxiryder@comcast.net and Jim Morris at mor243@yahoo.com.
Mission Trip to Belize – This year our mission trip, in partnership with Virginia Baptists, will be to Belize, July 10-18. This trip is for senior high only. If a middle school youth wants to attend, s/he will need a parent to accompany them. The trip costs approximately $1,300 per person, including airfare, food, and lodging. We plan to have several fund raising events to help pay for this trip. If you would like to help plan a fund-raiser or serve as a chaperone, please call Tracy Ryder (384-6767, 665-8294). Since this international mission trip takes much advanced planning, the deadline to pay your $500 deposit is NOW.
Save the Date – Middle School Dance – Friday, March 19, 7-10 p.m. The Youth will sponsor a Middle School dance in the Fellowship Hall from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19. This will be a fund-raising event in support of 2010 youth ministry, including the mission trip to Belize. Tickets are $5 per person. If you would like to chaperone or assist with this event, please contact Tracy Ryder (384-6767, taxiryder@comcast.net)

Husband/Wife Humor
A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, “Relatives of yours?” “Yes,” the wife replied, “in-laws.”
A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use in a day . . . 30,000 to a man’s 15,000. The wife replied, “The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men who do not listen.” The husband then turned to his wife and asked, “What?”
A man said to his wife one day, “I don’t know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful at the same time.” She responded, “Let me enlighten you. God made me beautiful so that you would be attracted to me. God made me stupid so that I would be attracted to you.”
A man and his wife argued over who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife reasoned, “You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don’t have to wait as long to get our coffee.” The husband countered, “You are in charge of cooking around here, so you should do it, because that is your job.” The wife replied, “No, you should do it because it is in the Bible that the man should brew the coffee.” The husband retorts, “I don’t believe that! Show me!” So she reached for her Bible, opened to the New Testament and pointed to the book of Hebrews. “I told you,!” she triumphed.
