1)
Although most of this report has focused on the
health of our church, we should always remember that our primary mission is
not to preserve our church but to grow the family of God. Throughout 2010 may
we focus on our enduring purpose – to help people connect with God and with a
genuine, caring community of faith.
2)
We should continue to
give energetic attention to our education and children’s program, as we work
to expand our identity as a multi-generational congregation.
3)
It is equally
important that we give devoted attention to the care of our members,
especially those facing chronic and acute health issues. When aging members
who have given so much to the vitality of our congregation need support, we
should be alert and caring in our response.
4)
As guests regularly
worship with us and new members commit to our congregation, we need to focus
on the on-going work of integrating them into the life and ministry of our
church. When people connect with us through worship, it is important that we
help them connect with other enrichment opportunities – education, fellowship,
and service. As we learned in our reading of Transforming Church, we
want to help people be a part of our community, not consumers of our spiritual
product.
5)
2010 would be a good
year for a focused effort of “inreach” – that is, seeking to renew our
connection with church members who have drifted into a pattern of detachment
and inactivity. Many of us have given occasional attention to this need
within our church family. Now it is time to take a focused effort to renew
relationships with inactive members.
6)
One of our priorities
for 2010 will be calling out and developing leaders. One of the opportunities
discovered in a September review of our church’s strategic plan was to invest
in the development of leaders. This year Peakland will provide multiple
opportunities for church members to gain greater awareness of their identity
and purpose as disciples of Jesus Christ. One of the more ambitious of these
programs will be a two semester leadership process co-facilitated by Bob
Bailey and Steve McNeely that will use the Faith Leader resource
published by Chalice Press. Beginning in early February, this process is open
to any member or friend of the church who wishes to make the commitment
required.Return to Welcome Page
