Peakland News
From the McNeely Family
Dad is out of surgery and on his way to the neurological ICU. We hear that he is awake and talking already, and are waiting for him to come up in the ICU waiting room. The doctor said that he wasn't able to remove the entire tumor but he did get some of it out. So the next step will be waiting for the biopsy to come back to see what type of treatment is involved for what is left. The biopsy usually takes 24-48 hours but with the weekend that time might be a little extended. We'll send more updates as we have them.

From Adam McNeely
We just saw Dr. McCrary and Dr. Wade. The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Dad will be starting prep at 8am. Dr. McCrary said that the surgery will take three to four hours. He will be removing the larger of the two masses and then using what they remove for studies so they can target any radiation therapy that may be neccessary. Dad is getting another CAT scan done right now. The doctors are having this done so they can get another look at the tumors prior to surgery. The swelling should be reduced because of the steroids which Dad has been taking since Sunday.
Dad will probably be in the Neurological intensive care unit through the weekend recovering. I've been showing him the website and these emails. He's so appreciative of all the cards and prayers and so is our family. We've been so taken care of that we've been able to spend all our time with Dad and that's what means the most to us.
Love always,
Adam

Update for Wednesday September 1, 2010
The Liver Biopsy results have not been released. The Neurologist does not want to proceed until he has those results. At Steve's request , our close friends in the Hospital have coordinated a 4 hour short "Furlough" for Steve to go home. He left around 8:00 a.m. and must be back to the hospital by 12:00 noon. More to follow

Update from Steve's son, Adam
I just wanted to send out an update on Dad. We did get the liver biopsy results today and they were inconclusive. The tissue which was sampled came back as normal and the radiologist is confident that he sampled the area in question but since there is not a way to be completely sure the doctor is listing the result as inconclusive. Even thought this sounds a little up in the air the doctor assured us this is great news!
Dad was allowed to go out for a bit today so we took him home so he could take care of a few things prior to surgery and he was able to relax a little away from the hospital. He has eaten his full meals since last night and does have an appetite. Mom said he is walking a whole lot better now so the steroids are helping bring down the swelling in his brain as expected. Dad seems much more himself over the past couple of days and today he got a little mad about the whole thing. It was really nice to see some of that old McNeely fight coming out. :)
Right now it looks like the neurosurgery is going to happen but we're not sure when. It may be as early as Friday morning.
We'll keep everyone updated as we learn more.
